Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
