The Actress Says Mentioning Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer fitting to speak out countering the Trump government, worried it could worsen divisive discussions and increase separation within the United States.
‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes Lawrence
Speaking with media, Lawrence shared, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was moving hastily in a panicked state. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars do not make a difference at all on who people vote for.”
She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both conservative and liberal contenders throughout her life. Raised by Republican parents in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she recognized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was opposing her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Past Statements
In 2015, she stated that a Trump victory might signal “a catastrophic event” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “as I think she’s a strong contender and I trust that she will take all necessary steps to defend women’s health rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact stars have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years appears changed,” noted the actress of Trump’s presidency. “As he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
The actor is highlighting her new film, the filmmaker’s drama in which she stars as a young mom who deals with her mental health in a remote area. During a press conference for the film in Venice, the star commented on the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s taking place is equivalent to a genocide and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
She continued by saying that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the conversations of the political landscape at present and how that is going to be accepted to the children right now. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”
She attempted to refocus frustration about the issue to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she said, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge supported by numerous Hollywood professionals to avoid certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
The actor, who won an Oscar early in her career for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in Die, My Love. Even though the director has rejected the plot being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, the actress shared that she identified with parts of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, shortly after shooting ended.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she explained, “just picturing every potential danger, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a medication called that medicine and I used it for two weeks and it really helped.”
Career Moments
The actor also discussed about the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the film while she was in pregnancy and unable to exercise.
“There’s a freedom,” she said, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
